Senate Bill 172: Suspension of the California High School Exit Exam

Ramona Unified School District is happy to report that with the passage of Senate Bill 172, which took effect on January 1, 2016, school districts may now grant a graduation diploma to any student who completed all required course work for graduation but failed to pass either the English or mathematics portions of the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE).  SB 172 specifically addresses students who would have received a graduation diploma from 2004-2014.

Ramona Unified School District would like to provide students who meet the conditions of SB 172 with a copy of their official transcripts clarifying their graduation status, a copy of the information on Senate Bill 172, and their High School Diploma.

If you, or someone you know, completed all the necessary course work to graduate from Ramona High School, Montecito High School, or Future Bound Independent Study, but did not receive a diploma because of failing the CAHSEE, please contact Mrs. Brenda Shirley, Administrative Assistant in Education Services at Ramona Unified School District.  Mrs. Shirley can be reached by phone at 760-787-2012 or via email at
